It’s Halloween… A time of year when we love to dress up and see who has the scariest costume in exchange for a trick / treat – hoping for a treat! But there is a much more spiritual aspect to this tradition depending on your culture or beliefs

In Mexico it’s the ‘Day of the Dead’ – a time of year when they beautifully honour their ancestors. If it wasn’t for our ancestors we wouldn’t be here today, or be who we are. It’s believed this time of the year the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest, and our connection is the deepest.

It’s a time of endings. It’s the end of the Harvest when we reap everything we’ve sown during the rest of the year. It’s the end of the Summer and we start to prepare ourselves for the colder, darker, Winter months. It’s also a time of reflection of our year so far, and ending anything that is no longer serving us ready for the end of this year, taking us into the next.

Known as the ‘witch’s new year’, it’s a time when those of us who are spiritual embrace our ‘inner witch’ by creating rituals to honour our deceased loved ones. It’s a great time to cleanse our homes, take a salt bath to cleanse our own energy, and consult tarot / divination cards to look back on the year so far, and guidance for the remainder of the year.

What’s your favourite way to celebrate this time of year….?
